Help and FAQ
The site itself is really straightforward to use, so for now its not really necessary to produce vast amounts of help documentation. If you have any issues, please contact us directly for assistance. When we get asked questions we will also put the answer up here to create a FAQ list. In theory at least, we should eventually have a help manual that contains just the bits people actually need.

For an overview of the important points when using this site, please see the Getting Started quick guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't login (Facebook)

Facebook users of this site use Facebooks own login pages to authenticate themselves. We receive information from Facebook when you login and we take action to allow registered access to this site. If you can't login with you Facebook credentials, first ensure you can login and use your Facebook account normally. We cannot resolve Facebook login issues, they must be sorted using Facebooks own security procedures.

I can't login (Non Facebook)

Reason: Not registered, or registration not complete

To login, you must have registered your email address and clicked the confirmation link within the email we sent you. Only when users are registered and confirmed, will they be able to log in.

Reason: Incorrect email address or password, account locked out

Seems obvious but ensure the email address and password are correct. If you have entered a valid email address but an invalid password more than 5 times, your account will have been temporarily suspended to try and stop 'brute force' password hacking. You would then not be allowed to login even if you do remember the correct password. The solution is to use the Recover Password link, which resets the password and unlocks the account.

I did not get the confirmation email (Non Facebook)

Reason: Spam filters and virus checkers stop the delivery

Many things can affect email delivery but its most common for the email to be stopped en-route by a spam-filter or virus-checker. First, check to see if the email has been placed into your 'Junk Mail' folder, if it has, you can usually mark the message as 'Not Junk' to ensure future emails are delivered as expected. Ensure emails from our website address (freemusicads.co.uk, freemusicads.com are added to your list of safe emails, this may help avoid future delivery problems.

Reason: Temporary delivery issues

Temporary delivery issues covers a multitude of scenarios, your mailbox may be full, a mail server may be out of action due to maintenance, a mail server may be too busy to accept the email etc. Our email system will retry several times to deliver the email but will eventually give up. The only thing you can do is ensure you are capable of receiving emails, wait until a less busy time then get the email sent again from the Resend Confirmation page.

I closed my Facebook account, can I keep my account here?

Yes. If you have closed you Facebook account, you can continue using your account here by performing a few simple steps to change your account from a Facebook one, to an independent one:

Go to the Password Recovery page
Enter your registered Facebook email address
Click the Recover Password button
You will be sent an email with a newly generated password

Go to the Login page
Enter your registered email address and the new password into the Independent Login panel

Your account has now been enabled to login independently of Facebook, you may want to change the automatically generated password to something more memorable.

Why can't I use my Twitter account to log in?

We would love to be able to allow you to access the site using your Twitter credentials, however at this time, there is no way for us to retrieve your email address from Twitter. They simply don't supply it. This means that even if we allowed you to login with Twitter, you would still have to go through the email verification process, so there seems little point in offering the option at this time.
