The site is very straightfoward to use, but here are a few things you should know:

Set Your Country and Location First

Really important! The first thing you should do is set your country and location. All adverts on the site are tagged with a location and the primary search is based on distance away from you.

To set your location, look at the top right of the page. There are 2 drop down boxes, one for the Country and another for the Location within that Country. Select your country first, the location box will populate will all the locations we have within that country, select the one nearest you.

We currently have locations loaded up for the UK and the US. UK locations are postcodes, US locations are ZIP codes. We will add more countries as demand increases. 

Social Likes, +1 and Tweets

If you like the site, please recommend us by tweet, Facebook Like or Google +1, or all three! The more people know about us, the more ads are placed, the more likely you will find what you are looking for, the more features we will add. Its one big virtuous circle.

Themes

There are various themes available, selected from the drop down list underneath your location. Themes change the basic colours of the site but not the structure. Choose a colour scheme you like. We intend to offer a featured band theme, if your band is interested in this then please contact us.
 
 Navigation

All navigation is done via links at the top of the page which you just click, the links available may change depending on what section of the site you are in, or whether you are a Guest or Registered visitor.

All fields that need you to type something into them have tooltips attached. Just allow the mouse cursor to hover over the box for a few second and a explanation of what the box is used for will be displayed.

Showing the Login Page

When using the site, you may be presented with a login page. This will happen if you are a Guest visitor but are trying to perform an action that only Registered visitors can perform (eg reply to an advert). In this case you will have to:

i) login using a previously registered email address OR
ii) login with Facebook (which will automatically register you too - see below) OR
iii) go to the registration page and register an email address (see below)

Viewing Ads

When viewing ads, they are restricted to locations relevant to you, within a specified mileage range. Therefore its very important that you have set your location correctly. Ads can be filtered using the controls above the ad list. If you change them, just remember you have to click the search button before the ad list is updated.
 
Guest Visitors

When you first arrive at the site, you are classified as a Guest. Guests can do most of the things a registered user can. We would, of course love you to register so you can use all the facilities on offer. If you remain as a Guest, we will keep your location saved for when you revisit, but only for a maximum of 7 days inbetween visits.

Registered Visitors

Registered users have their location, theme, avatar etc saved indefinetely. You can be automatically logged in every time you visit, create adverts, send and receive messages, receive automatic notification of new ads etc. Registration is recommended and very quick:

Facebook Registered

If you have a Faceook account, this is your easiest option. You use your existing Facebook email and password to log in, you authorise us to access your basic details (exactly the same as you would do to use your favourite Facebook App). We set up an account on this website automatically, there is no need to confirm details as you have already done that for Facebook. Registration takes place the first time you log in, it literally takes just a few seconds.

Independently Registered

Non Facebook users need to register an email address and password, and also click a link in a confirmation email that we send you. It takes a bit longer but normally can be done within a few minutes, depending on how quickly the email arrives at your computer.

Facebook App

We have release a Facebook application that links into this site. Much like this site, its still in its early days and will develop rapidly over the coming months. Just search for FreeMusicAds in Facebook.
